A child custody investigation is like an internship conducted by a private investigator. They conduct an independent assessment of the child’s well-being, treatment and likely outcome under each parent (those in question) based on their findings derived from interviews with family members and others as appropriate. This information may then be presented to a court as evidence which then decides how best to react to this information and make their decision accordingly. When a judge initiates the process of awarding child custody, the investigator may conduct surveillance to get a better idea of how the parent treats his or her child during everyday moments. The investigator will watch and listen to determine if there are any problems with how the parent interacts with their child as an individual, which could impact whether or not that adult is fit to take on sole custody.
